About this flight

I usually don’t fly with SkyTeam member airlines very often, but Garuda Indonesia is known for its high-quality service, so when I had the opportunity to fly from Jakarta to Singapore, I decided to give it a try.

The flight from Jakarta to Singapore is a short one—just under two hours—but champagne was properly served in a real champagne glass, and the in-flight meal was beautifully arranged and colorful. The service truly lived up to its 5-star reputation.

Uniforms by Era (1)

年代別の制服

After entering the lounge, I found a display of Garuda Indonesia uniforms over the years. The airline marked its 70th anniversary this year, and photos of past uniforms were arranged by era to commemorate it.

  • (Far right flight attendant) Uniform from the founding year, 1949
  • (Pilot and flight attendant on the left) Uniforms from 1959

Uniforms by Era (2)

年代別の制服

The progression continued through 1985, the 1990s, and 1999.

Uniforms by Era (3)

年代別の制服

In 1999 and 2000, the uniforms resembled the “Sarong Kebaya” style worn by Singapore Airlines and Malaysia Airlines cabin crew. In the 2000s the uniforms shifted to a more traditional style, featuring long skirts or pants, along with the familiar hands-pressed greeting pose.

In the 2010s the uniforms were orange, and the current uniforms are based on navy and blue tones. The hands-together greeting pose remains.

Business Class Seat

ビジネスクラスの座席

This was the Business Class seat for the day. Since the aircraft was a Boeing 737-800, a narrow-body jet, the seats were the narrow-body style of Business Class. They were still wider and more spacious than Economy Class seats.

5-Star Airline

5つ星旅客機

The wall in front of my seat displayed the certification from Skytrax, the UK-based airline quality rating organization, recognizing Garuda Indonesia as a “5-Star Airline.”

Hot Towel

Champagne

シャンパン

The champagne I was served. Even though the Jakarta–Singapore flight is short—just under two hours—they provide champagne in a proper glass, which shows the high quality of their service.

Personal Screen

個人用スクリーン

The personal screen for the seat. It is the type stored under the armrest and pulled out for use.

Beautifully Presented Meal

This is the in-flight meal. Even though it’s a short-haul route, the presentation is well thought out.

The arrangement and colors are nicely designed.

  • • (Left bag) Shrimp crackers
  • • (Top) Bread, salad, almond tofu
  • • (Lower left) Yellow bavarois

Cola
