About this flight
After a comfortable stay at a hotel on Waikiki Beach in Honolulu, I flew to San Francisco in United Airlines First Class.
At Honolulu Airport, I was impressed by the open-air terminal with some areas lacking window glass, and I also enjoyed viewing the Japanese garden inside the terminal.
The Hawaiian-style meal in the lounge was also delicious.
The First Class seat on this U.S. domestic flight was a spacious, large seat similar to those used in business class on international flights.

Check-in Counter
This is the check-in counter in Terminal 2 of Honolulu Airport. Although it’s not for United Airlines (UA), which I used on this trip, I passed by ANA’s check-in counter — a fellow Star Alliance member — and took this photo.
ANA’s Reduced Flights During COVID
This is ANA’s “Flight Information for Honolulu Routes.” Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they were operating only about two flights per week.
It was definitely an unusual situation.

Open-Air Terminal
Honolulu Airport features several gardens within the terminal, including a Japanese Garden, Chinese Garden, and Hawaiian Garden. This photo appears to be of the Japanese Garden.
Some areas are also open-air with no glass windows, creating a great sense of openness.
Garden Inside the Terminal
This is a garden area in another part of the terminal.
The Airport and the Honolulu Sky
This is the view of the airport and sky near the departure gate area. Hawaii is known for its many sunny days and stable temperatures year-round, making it a very comfortable and pleasant place.
Thanks to the open design of the airport, you can enjoy the “Aloha” atmosphere right up to the very end of your trip.

Inside the same store, there was a mannequin seated in an airplane seat, decorated with various aviation items.
Open-Air Airport
A photo taken while walking to the lounge. At Honolulu Airport, there are open-air areas without glass windows, as you can see here. The absence of windows creates a truly refreshing, open atmosphere.
Thanks to Hawaii’s mild, stable weather and low rainfall year-round, such architectural design is possible.

Nuts and Baked Goods
This is part of the food selection in the lounge. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, everything is individually packaged.
This corner features nuts and loaf cake (likely pound cake).

This is the pasta salad and noodle salad corner:
- • Bowtie pasta Caesar salad topped with grilled free-range chicken
- • Noodle salad with Oʻahu-grown mango and chili dressing
Sandwiches, Chips, and More
- • Curry chicken sandwich
- • Fruit cup
- • Chips with a “Lomi” sauce of pineapple and mango
