ANA In-Flight Meal & Cabin Tour Event “Restaurant FLYING HONU” Business Class – Day 2
In June 2021, I participated in ANA’s in-flight meal and aircraft tour event held at Narita Airport, which began in May 2021. The event was designed to give participants the feeling of traveling abroad during a time when it was difficult to fly internationally due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
For this event, ANA used two Airbus A380 aircraft originally introduced for Honolulu flights. One was used as a restaurant offering in-flight meals, while the other was opened for a detailed cabin tour. Each aircraft features a special sea turtle-themed livery in different colors. The “HONU” in “FLYING HONU” is the Hawaiian word for “sea turtle.”
At the in-flight restaurant, I enjoyed a Western-style business class meal. During the cabin tour, I was able to take a close look at the seats and surroundings of each class—Economy, Premium Economy, Business, and First—as well as the amenities and bedding.

This is the international departure area in the South Wing of Narita Airport Terminal 1. To the left of the arrival information board is the domestic departure area, where the check-in procedures for the in-flight meal event are also conducted.
Looking at the international departure schedule, due to the global impact of COVID-19, most flights are listed as “Cancelled.”
International Check-in Counters
This is the scene at the international check-in counters in the South Wing of Narita Airport Terminal 1. Not a single counter appears to be open.
Domestic Departure Schedule
While heading to the boarding gate for the event in the domestic departure area, I checked the domestic flight schedule—out of 14 flights, 8 were listed as “Cancelled.”

At the entrance of the shop near the domestic boarding gate, products related to the Airbus A380—originally scheduled for Honolulu service and used as the in-flight meal restaurant “FLYING HONU” for today’s event—were on display.

Exiting the Restaurant Aircraft
After leaving the in-flight restaurant aircraft, I boarded a bus to transfer to Aircraft No. 1 for the next part of the event—the cabin tour.

Economy Class
The entire first floor is Economy Class. There are two aisles, and the seats are arranged 3-4-3. The window-side seats are a light gray, while the center seats are a deep blue. Using lighter colors on the outside makes the cabin feel more spacious.
The seat pitch is a generous 86 cm, offering a comfortable amount of space.
Couch Seats (1)
Rows 71–76 at the very rear of Economy are “couch seats.”
The leg rest can be raised to the same height as the seat, making it easier for small children to lie down, and even adults can lie flat by using two or three seats together.
Bedding includes First Class mattress sheets and Business Class pillows.

First Class (1)
I tried closing the aisle-side door to the left of the screen in a First Class seat. Pulling the tab marked “PULL” reveals a hook where you can hang a jacket.
First Class (2)
I reclined the First Class seat to a full-flat position, closed the doors, lay down, and looked up at the ceiling.
