S7 Airlines Lounge
At Domodedovo International Airport, I used the S7 Airlines Lounge, operated by Russia’s S7 Airlines — a fellow member of the oneworld alliance, just like JAL. At that time, I held oneworld Emerald status, which allowed me access to this lounge.
Although I received an invitation to the Airport Business (AB) Lounge at the JAL check-in counter, I decided to visit the S7 Lounge first.
Food Corner
This is the food corner inside the S7 Airlines Lounge.
- • Salads
- • Pasta
- • Cereal (three kinds)
- • Fruit
- • Juices (apple, orange, etc.)
Hot Sandwiches
- • Hot sandwiches
- • Cheese
The sandwiches were cut into cubes for easy serving.
There were also three containers with hot dishes lined up beside them.
Hot Dishes
- • Grechka (buckwheat groats)
- A staple of Russian cuisine — cooked buckwheat grains.
- • Steamed chicken (likely)
Curry and Other Dishes
Side dishes typical of Russian cuisine.
- • (Bottom) A curry-like dish
- • (Top) A baked dish made by sandwiching ingredients (such as paprika, mushrooms, pumpkin, and cucumber) between layers of egg white
Alcohol Counter
This is the alcohol counter. Guests can order drinks to be served. However, I believe premium drinks — such as champagne or certain cocktails — were available for an additional fee.
What I Had
I enjoyed a light meal along with some drinks.
- • Beer and cola — both complimentary
- • Salad
- • Steamed chicken
- • Baked egg white dish filled with paprika, mushrooms, pumpkin, and cucumber

Austrian Airlines Lounge
After leaving the S7 Airlines Lounge, I moved on to explore other lounges. I had previously used this Austrian Airlines Lounge in June 2019 when I flew from Moscow to Athens with Aegean Airlines. I didn’t use it this time, though.
British Airways Lounge
I found the British Airways Lounge, but it was already closed for the day — the operating hours ended at 16:05. My JAL flight that day was probably scheduled to depart around 17:30, so unfortunately, I couldn’t use it.
Showcase-Style Refrigerator
Since the British Airways Lounge was closed, I entered the Airport Business (AB) Lounge — the one I had been invited to when checking in with JAL. This lounge also offered a wide selection of food and a high standard of service.
This is a showcase-style bread refrigerator. Perhaps this type of display is unique to Russia; it’s not something I often see in airports elsewhere.
Yogurt and Cheese
Yogurt, cheese, ham, and smoked salmon were available here as well.
This too was stored in a showcase-style refrigerator.
Individually Wrapped Bread
Individually wrapped sandwiches, bread, and salads were available. The bread and salads were labeled with HALAL certification stickers, meaning they were approved as permissible under Islamic dietary laws.
Drink Refrigerator
Next to the food section, there was also a refrigerator filled with beverages.
- • Soft drinks (Coke, 7UP, etc.)
- • Mineral water
- • Beer (Heineken)
- • Sparkling wine
Sparkling Wine and Bread
I enjoyed a glass of sparkling wine and tried two types of bread — both likely Russian varieties.
- • Roll-style sandwich
- • Savory bread

Aircraft and Cabin

Aircraft
This is the JAL Boeing 787-8 aircraft I flew on that day.
Economy Class Cabin
After boarding, this is what the Economy Class cabin looked like. The seating configuration is 2-4-2. The seat pitch is 84 cm, which is among the widest in the world. Many airlines have seat pitches of just around 79 cm.
Pre-Meal Drinks
These were the pre-meal drinks served after takeoff.
- • Whisky soda
- • Red wine
- • Arare (Japanese rice cracker mix)
In-Flight Meal After Takeoff
This was the meal served after takeoff. It had a Russian-style menu.
- • (Front) Russian chocolate and dressing
- • (Main dish) Chicken, eggplant, and greens on rice with tomato sauce
- • (Salad) Beetroot salad
- • (Cake) A baked cake similar to a kuglof
Second Meal Service
The flight from Moscow to Narita takes about nine and a half hours, so a second meal was served before arrival at Narita.
- • (Main) Hot ham and cheese sandwich
- • (Dessert) Fresh fruit platter
- • (Drinks) Apple juice, orange juice

After arriving at Narita Airport from Moscow,
I went to the domestic departure lobby to transfer to a domestic flight and checked this domestic departure flight information board.
